"Learning the Divine Office, even under the most favorable of circumstances, is quite a task. When this must be done amid the excitement which, naturally enough, is the lot of the ordinandus and amid the multifarious occupations which make demands on his time, it may become an obsession. To add to the difficulties, those who have mastered the subject are not always at hand to give counsel, or, if at hand, the ordinandus may not feel inclined to impose on them. His only recourse then is to books. In the following pages the author has attempted to give the subject of learning the Divine Office that treatment which he sought in vain in existing books. Excellent though these books are, they were written to suit needs and meet demands quite other than those which the author experienced. To fill these others needs and to satisfy these demands is the purpose of these pages. The author hopes that he has accomplished his task and that these pages may prove of assistance to other ordinandi who temperamentally and otherwise are situated much as he was himself." --Bernard A.
