Michael Lerner's book has become the rallying cry for those fed up with the cynicism of our media and politics, but who don't buy the conservatives' "family values" as the simple answer. Drawing on ideas from the Bible, Jewish teachings, and his experience as a psychotherapist, Lerner examines the roots of our country's spiritual malaise, and offers in its place a more meaning-oriented vision of our political and social system. With a new epilogue by the author, The Politics of Meaning promises to be an inspiration for alternative political movements for years to come.
Editorial Reviews
"[This] powerful book speaks to our profound crisis of society and soul with deep and important new insights. Have the courage to read it." --Cornel West, author of Race Matters.
"Instead of relegating 'spirituality,' 'hope,' and 'meaning' to touchy-feelies group-therapy sessions, Michael Lerner shows us that these concepts should be the gut-level stuff of real politics--a politics that will rally ordinary workaday folks to join in building a genuinely progressive America in our lifetime." --Jim Hightower
"Morally important...and exceptionally courageous." --Jonathan Kozol, author of Amazing Grace
