About the Author
L. Frank Baum (1856–1919) was an American author best known for creating the beloved Oz series, beginning with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900. A prolific writer and imaginative storyteller, Baum authored more than 50 books and wrote plays, poems, and essays as well. His Oz books, characterized by their whimsical characters, inventive landscapes, and underlying themes of friendship and self-discovery, helped define early American fantasy literature and inspired generations of readers and adaptations in stage, film, and popular culture.
