Mary Staton’s From the Legend of Biel is a thoughtful and imaginative science fiction novel following a human exploration team sent to the distant planet MC6, a seemingly idyllic world marked by mysterious geometric structures and remnants of an advanced civilization. As the expedition investigates the planet’s enigmatic ruins, astronaut Howard Scott is drawn into a journey that challenges his assumptions about humanity, intelligence, and the nature of consciousness itself. Blending planetary exploration, alien archaeology, and philosophical speculation, Staton’s debut novel stands apart from traditional space adventure by focusing on cultural discovery and the evolution of understanding between worlds.
