History of Europe

In Reformation Europe: 1517–1559, distinguished historian G. R. Elton offers a concise yet deeply influential examination of one of the most transformative periods in Western history. Covering the rise of Martin Luther, the fragmentation of religious authority, the political upheavals of the Holy Roman Empire, and the emergence of Protestant movements across Europe, Elton presents the Reformation not merely as a theological dispute but as a profound cultural and political revolution that reshaped the modern world. Written with clarity, intellectual rigor, and historical precision, this volume remains an enduring introduction to the religious and social forces that defined early modern Europe.
