What Mad Universe is a science fiction novel by Fredric Brown that follows Keith Winton, an ordinary magazine editor who is transported into a parallel universe where the conventions of pulp science fiction have become reality.
In this strange world, Winton encounters alien creatures, advanced technology, interplanetary conflict, and other familiar science fiction tropes as he searches for a way home. Brown uses the adventure to satirize the conventions and clichés of the science fiction magazines of his era.
Blending science fiction, satire, and adventure, What Mad Universe is both an imaginative alternate-universe story and a playful look at the genre itself.
